Mockett at BDNY 2019
Were you at the Boutique Design Trade Fair in New York over Veteran’s Day Weekend on November 10-11? It was a blast! Now in its 10th year, Boutique Design New York (BDNY) is the premiere trade show event for the hospitality industry. With over 750 exhibitors lining the aisles of the Javits Center showing to over 8,000 designers, architects and hoteliers, there is never a dull moment during the two action-packed show dates.
Mockett has become a bit of a staple on the bill for visitors to view all the finest in architectural hardware. Booth# 4044 had our usual best-selling pop up outlets and power grommets for furniture, along with new wireless chargers and a beautiful collection of drawer pulls and coat hooks, but also put a special spotlight on New Concept parts to give a glimpse into Mockett’s future offerings. We enjoyed meeting with everyone and getting valuable feedback on how to better serve your design needs. Our customers are the best! BDNY is a super fun show, and while we like to think all the action is happening in the Mockett booth, there’s plenty more to look at! It’s always fun to take a stroll around the show to check out the new colors, textures, and designs on the horizon for the coming year. Hospitality design is different from other market segments in that it is always bold and unapologetic about risk-taking and never ceases to amaze! This year was no exception, with some stunning cutting edge designs. Here are a few that caught our attention:
Off the Wall Wallpaper:
There was quite an array of striking wall paper designs throughout the show. Bold colors, loud prints, even monkeys drinking vodka! Yes, you read that right. These fun designs would leave a lasting impression on your guests, that’s for sure! Of course, there were plenty of other prints that were still very exotic, but weren’t quite as quirky as the monkeys. Bold prints and colors are creating a living, breathing environment around your furniture by jumping off the walls and consuming you into a fully immersive design experience. Fun!
Color of the Show:
One shade that was particularly prominent throughout the halls of the Javits Center was Pink – all tones from Magenta to Mauve were incorporated into designs and fabrics all throughout the show. It looked very elegant when paired with gold and brass accents! We think our gold Knurled Handle would be a great addition to any pink-themed design.

We mentioned how much fun we have meeting our customers face to face and giving you a chance to kick the tires, a chance to see and feel our products in person. But another one of our favorite parts of the show is spotting our parts in use throughout the show floor and getting to see how designers incorporate them into their furniture. It’s a real treat.
BDNY 2019 felt like a great success. The hospitality industry seems to be buzzing with excitement and new development as the architecture and landscape of the way we travel and work is evolving. Interior Designers and Architects are loving all the new options and adapting to these new accommodations it seems. We can’t wait to do it all again and show you what’s in store at BDNY 2020!
