Doug's News October 2025

Dear Friends:
When I was a kid growing up in 1950s, New Jersey, polio was the most feared and incurable scourge; a neighbor kid wore a huge brace on one leg and gimped around. Then, in 1955, Dr. Jonas Salk invented a successful polio vaccine that helped nearly eradicate polio worldwide. Polio in 2025 is a footnote in medical history.
Not so with cancer, the new scourge; especially women's breast cancers. So far there have been baby steps towards a cure, but no Salk-like magic bullet.
Thankfully, there are groups raising research funds to find a cure. One of them is the Susan G. Komen Foundation, which we have proudly supported for the past decade or so.
This year we have already exceeded our goal of $2,500 and are raising it to $4000. We'd love to have your support. Donate to Team Mockett online by clicking here or via check made payable to "Komen-More Than Pink Walk" with "Team Mockett" in the memo section. Checks can be mailed to our mailing address: PO Box 3333, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266. Email [email protected] for more info or with any questions. With thanks! (BTW we are ranked top 10 donations as of 10/1.)
On October 26, we will be taking part in the LA "Komen More Than Pink" walk in LA State Historic Park and eagerly looking forward to it with some 7000 others. Exciting!
And don't forget:
