Making an eco-frienldy home can be easy and readily accessible. These additions to your home can be simple enough to add to any space in your home and easy enough to do on your own. Check out these quick tips to help make your home more eco-frienldy:

Indoor Plants

An easy way to improve air quality without any electronics is by incorporating indoor plants into your space. We’ve seen a resurgence of hanging pot plants in kitchens and bathrooms to regulate humidity without the need for an air purifier. Beautify any room with peace lilies, or simply add a touch of greenery with an aloe plant or philodendron. You can even create your own indoor garden by repurposing old containers or jars as planters.

Natural Materials

Bring the outside in. Embrace using natural materials in your home in lieu of plastic materials. Use bamboo, cork, reclaimed wood, or recycled glass in your DIY projects. You can even use these materials for storage and home organization. These materials are sustainable and can add warmth and texture to your space. Not only that, but you can rest assured that they are free of chemicals and other volatile materials.

Zero-Waste

This option requires a little more commitment, but the output is just as rewarding. An easy way to reuse your waste is to compost. Indoor plants and composting are a match made in heaven. Repurposing food scraps for cooking or gardening can add precious nutrients and minerals to your plants. Making your own reusable cloth towels or napkins can also be a helpful option in making a zero-waste home. Cut up and reuse old towels and t-shirts for eco-friendly napkins and towels.

Community Sharing

Collaboration and resource-sharing help reduce waste and foster a sense of community. A recent trend we’ve seen is increased participation in gift economies. Groups of online communities come together to share and gift freely amongst eachother. The Buy Nothing Project is one of the major benefit corporations finding ground in major metropolitan areas. Community members give, share, lend, and receive through a gift economy network. To join a Buy Nothing group near you, check out more about the project here.
