Mockett Announces Design Competition Winners

Congratulations Hannah Eckersley and Michael Nelson!

For an unprecedented third year in a row, we’ve had winning entries to our Annual Design Competition come from the Industrial Design School at Appalachian State University. Our design contest is open to everyone, and while we typically get entries from everyone from professional and freelance designers to hobbyists and DIY enthusiasts who come up with interesting life hack solutions to everyday problems and turn them into interesting and unique design solutions, we are especially excited to see our little design contest reach higher learning institutions and see the brilliance of those budding architects and designers who are still actively learning their craft. Designers of tomorrow - spreading their wings today!

There were two winning entries this year, one a wonderful triangular coat hook design with multi-level layered interior hooks, and the other a brilliant floor wire manager that has a platform for power strips and runs additional cabling underneath.

Hannah Eckersley – This art deco-inspired Coat Hook design includes a stamped triangle back plate and smaller interior cuts bent out for multi-hooks. Hannah drew her inspiration from the Empire State building and old jazz club posters to capture the mood of the era.

Michael Nelson – A stunning and practical Floor Wire Manager with a platform for power strips and additional cable storage below also doubles as a footrest with a rigid shield cover on the outside. Michael was inspired to design a product that didn’t exist in traditional office settings. His exclusive take on cable management against a wall or baseboard provides a unique solution for floor cable managers.
